Demo Songs Janie Dare Covers and Collaborations with other artists

Kick Yourself was written by the late Simon Moon a great friend, mentor and wonderful song writer, who passed a few years ago now. I used to play guitar and back up vocs in his band 'Through a Scanner Darkly' (Scanners). I have very fond memories of this time.
The original recording of Kick Yourself that Simon made I found a little too 'light' and electro-pop for my own style so I rearranged the music and added some guitar and bass to rock it up a bit.

I performed Kick Yourself at Simon's memorial with Hamid Mantu, Tim Whelan and Jim Chase. So a few years back I decided to record it again. I had access Simon's original recordings so these are his original vocals.

Sadly, Simon's work is not available anywhere on/ or off/line and I hope that one day I'll able to cover more of his work. It would just be too much of a shame if it were to just disappear.

Black Widow written by Rupert Holmes, original title 'Queen Bee', original acapella version by Barbara Streisand in the 1976 remake of 'A Star is Born'.

I always loved this song and I couldn't resist doing a hard rock version. Great fun!

Jean Genie - Sitting Pretty Original lyrics by David Bowie, music (and some of the lyrics) reworked by Janie Dare

This is a bit of fun I had a few years back. It used to go down well at gigs. I rewrote the music for this as I figured no point in trying to improve on the original, so I'll do it my way, besides, as I mainly play by 'ear' rarely will I conform to 'old riff' always gotto give it a twist.
This version is also known as Fubar Jean Genie which very much reflected how I felt about the band I was working with when I performed this at Glastonbury 2013. They seemed more interested in relentlessly scarfing MDMA than they did in making music and it was very disheartening.
Apparently the video of Janie Dare and the Action Men performing this at Glastonbury made the live reel that year (probably the duff section) and is still played across the world (that right there is the kind of luck I've been blessed with all my life! - not to be a moaning minnie or anything). Anyway since 2015, I just can't bring myself to play it anymore. Seems a bit rude! God bless the wonderful Mr Jones' soul and memory and long may his spirit ever on.
I'll probably recycle the music for something else at some point, I do like this riff.

Practical Toys music and lyrics by Janie Dare

This one got played a few times on Cornish Radio (thanks Barry)!
